The maps show Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria as part of Israeli territory.
The Arab League strongly condemned Wednesday the publication by official Israeli accounts of maps depicting parts of Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon and Syria as part of Israeli territory.
Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit “warned that the international community’s failure to address such provocative actions and irresponsible rhetoric risks exacerbating extremism and counter-extremism on all sides,” according to a statement published on Emirates News Agency (WAM).
In a separate WAM statement, the UAE also condemned the publication of “an alleged historic Israel map by official accounts affiliated with the government of Israel,” calling it a “deliberate effort to expand the occupation and a blatant violation and contravention of international law.”
The UAE’s ministry of foreign affairs rejected all provocative practices aimed at altering the legal status of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and any measures that impede endeavours to achieve peace and stability in the region.
The ministry emphasized the importance of ending illegal practices that undermine the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
Nearly 46,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in Israel’s assault on Gaza, according to health officials in the besieged enclave. The latest Israeli offensive was launched after Hamas fighters stormed Israeli territory on Oct. 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people and capturing more than 250 hostages, according to Israeli tallies.
