The USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group is set to arrive in the Middle East later this week, a US official confirmed on Tuesday.
The move comes amid escalating tensions in the region, marked by the recent collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime to a Syrian opposition group, Israel’s ongoing conflict in Gaza, and the outbreak of war between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah in September.
Washington has significantly increased its military presence in the region since the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel. This includeed deploying aircraft carriers to the Red Sea to deter Houthi attacks on commercial and merchant vessels originating from Yemen.
